Oui Oui
I would definitely call myself a Francophile, as I’ve always been drawn towards their language, culture, and cuisine. Although French yogurt (albeit American-branded) just barely qualifies as French, I can’t help but express delight at these rich and creamy treats. Although I am a loyal La Fermière customer, because of the limited grocery purchases due to coronavirus quarantine as of late, I’ve been able to try another brand of yogurt, Yoplait’s Oui. I’ve only ever had the regular Vanilla one from this brand before. My first thought was that it was too tart for my taste, and not quite creamy enough for French yogurt. I would make this comparison to Red Mango to Pinkberry’s froyo, if you know what I mean! The two yogurts I’ve tried this week are Honey and Vanilla (made with “coconut daily alternative”).
Honey: This was creamy, but almost in a gelatinous way. There was a pleasant honey flavor, but it left a slight aftertaste which made me think the honey taste was artificial.
Coconut Dairy Alternative: not as creamy but that is expected because it’s made of coconut alternative, but still surprisingly nice. Light and sweet, just a hint of tartness. Quite enjoyable once I got used to the taste, but then it should really not be labeled as French-style yogurt. UGH I’m so judgmental. LOL!
So I probably will not be buying these again, despite the fact that I adore the glass jars. One thing I really appreciate (and never overlook) in products is the packaging, either clever or aesthetically pleasing. What I love about both La Fermière and Oui’s packaging is that the jars can be recycled or repurposed into little pots for gardening, containers for desserts, or just as pencil holders. When I used to be obsessed with the royal puddings from Paris Baguette (and brought home dozens of glass jars), I would use reuse them to make panna cotta at home. On one of the lids, I saw a link to buy resuable lids for these jars! Sweet and sustainable! ~
